My New Orthotics From PC Pedorthics : Do I need to “break in” my new foot orthotics?Back
In a word… yes! The difficulty however, is that there is no way of knowing what ones tolerance is to change. New foot pressures and body alignment changes occur with the use of corrective foot orthotics. How everyone adapts to this change can vary dramatically. As a general rule, new orthotics should be “broken in” gradually with the objective of reaching full time wear within 2 to 3 weeks time. Individuals, whom have worn orthotics in the past or spend most of the day sitting, can start wearing their orthotics more rapidly. The reason for a conservative wearing approach is to avoid aches and pains that may result through the break-in (adjustment) phase. At times however, some patients may be instructed to be more aggressive in this phase due to the presents of acute foot pain. Which is worse, the pain you are suffering with vs. the discomfort you may have during this adjustment phase? |
