Peter J. Charbonneau, B.P.E., A.T., C Ped (C)
Peter is the founder of PC PEDORTHICS. He holds a Bachelor of Physical Education Degree and a Diploma in Athletic Therapy and Management. Since completing his formal education, Peter has spent over 20 years in clinical assessment, design and manufacturing of orthotic devices. Working in conjunction with Sports Medicine Physicians, Orthopaedic Surgeons and Podiatrists, he is considered a leader in his profession. Through The College Of Pedorthics Of Canada, Peter has also been awarded the designation of CERTIFIED PEDORTHIST (CANADA). In addition to lecturing on the topics of biomechanics, sports injuries and footwear, Peter has treated numerous Professional Athletes, Olympians, Dancers of the National Ballet and Actors of stage and film.
What Is A Pedorthist?
The practice and profession of pedorthics has matured in Canada over the last ten years, under the guidance of the Pedorthic Association of Canada. Canadian Certified Pedorthists are trained and tested in their knowledge of biomechanics, anatomy, physiology of the lower limb, orthoses fabrication and modification, and footwear fitting and modification. The College of Pedorthics of Canada is the certifying and regulatory body for the profession and has established stringent standards of practice for certified members. Clinicians undergo rigorous written and practical testing processes and are required to comply with Pedorthic Code of Ethics. As footwear and orthoses experts, Canadian Certified Pedorthists work as members of the healthcare team to alleviate painful or debilitating conditions resulting from abnormalities or limited actions of the lower limb. Patients are typically referred directly to Certified Pedorthists by their physician or medical specialist. All major Canadian Insurance Companies endorse Certified Pedorthists as providers of this service. Although other healthcare professionals like Chiropractors and Physiotherapists have been know to provide orthotics, only Certified Pedorthists have the knowledge and design expertise in true “custom manufacturing”. www.cpedcs.ca
